How we practice

A brain and spine practice built around the patient in front of us.

We believe surgery is a last resort, not a first response. When it is the right answer, we use the most appropriate technique for the problem — no more, no less.

Fellowship-trained

Neurosurgical oncology fellowship at the University of Colorado, with depth in brain and spine tumor care.

Less is more

When surgery is the right answer, the plan is targeted to your specific pain generator and scaled to the actual problem — no broader than it needs to be.

Surgery is a last resort

Conservative options come first whenever they're reasonable. Surgery earns its place in your care plan, it doesn't assume it.

Second opinions welcome

Have a surgical recommendation from another surgeon? Telehealth or in-person — we'll help you think it through.

Our approach

Two pathways. One clear difference.

Traditional care can feel like a maze of referrals and imaging orders. We coordinate diagnosis, conservative care, and surgical evaluation in parallel — reducing delays and confusion.

Traditional care (fragmented)

  1. Primary care

    Non-specialist evaluation.

  2. Imaging or PT (maybe)

    Inconsistent orders; sometimes incomplete imaging.

  3. Repeat visits

Back-and-forth as the diagnosis stays unclear.

  4. Specialist referral

Often sent back for proper imaging or more PT first.

  5. Delays and detours

Months pass before a clear plan emerges.

Result: slow, fragmented care.

Integrated model (coordinated)

  1. See the neurosurgeon first

The brain and spine primary point of contact.

  2. Targeted imaging

    Confirm the exact diagnosis.

  3. Diagnosis-matched conservative care

PT, activity modification, injections where appropriate.

  4. One conductor

    All steps coordinated in parallel.

  5. Surgery only if indicated

Least-invasive option that fits your case.

Result: a connected, team-based plan built around you.

Second opinions

Unsure about a surgical recommendation?

Second opinions are actively encouraged here — whether the final plan ends up with us, with your current team, or somewhere else entirely. Available in person or via telehealth in California, Colorado, Oregon, and Kansas.

What to send us

  • • Recent MRI or CT images (uploaded through a secure portal)
  • • Your current surgeon's written recommendation
  • • A short note on your symptoms and what you've tried

No pressure to switch providers. The goal is to help you advocate for yourself and feel confident moving forward with your surgery — whether that's with your current surgeon and the plan you already have, or a different path that fits your case better.

Patient experience
